DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

Remnant smoke originating from wildfires in British Columbia can be seen accumulating between Vancouver and Prince Rupert, and extending over the Pacific Ocean. A long area of smoke is seen extending across northern Canada from British Columbia and Alberta, passing through Northwest Territories and extending into northern Nunavut, and reaching the north Atlantic ocean. Additional areas of smoke concentration can be found over northern California and southern Oregon associated with wildfires in that region (individual plumes moving towards the northeast-east), and over the mid-atlantic region and New England. The latter can be linked to long range transport from western wildfires over the last couple of days. WS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
