DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

Wildfires in central British Columbia, north central Washington, southwest Oregon, and northern California continue to produce heavy smoke plumes resulting in a wide area of remnant light to medium density smoke covering northern California, Oregon, Washington, southern Idaho, northern Nevada and northern Utah. Additionally, moderate-density smoke is seen covering northern Montana and southern Alberta and Saskatchewan along the U.S. and Canadian border. That sector also shows upper level light density smoke stretching further towards the northern Ontario and western Quebec. The majority of the plumes and upper level smoke is moving towards the east tracking the 500mb atmospheric flow. WS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
