SMOKE:
Utah/Wyoming...
Wildfires in central Utah and western Wyoming were seen releasing
heavy-density smoke moving towards the northeast. Cloud coverage prevented
identification of further downwind trajectories.

Southwest Oregon/Northern California...
Wildfires in southwest Oregon and northern California were observed
producing light-to-moderate smoke plumes moving towards the
south-southwest along the Sacramento Valley and over San Francisco.

Middle and Lower Mississippi Valley/Southern Plains, Southeastern U.S...
Numerous agricultural fires could be seen across the middle-lower
Mississippi Valley, extending further to the east across Mississippi,
Alabama and Georgia, and to the west into central Texas. The bulk of the
fire activity and smoke was concentrated over Arkansas, with the lower
level circulation pushing the smoke aloft to the west-northwest.

DUST:
Nevada...
Blowing dust could be seen off of Diamond Valley moving east towards
McGill.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.	AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
