DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

The presence of snow on the ground and increasing cloud coverage prevented the identification of smoke plumes and dispersion trajectories. Winds are light an variable, which may favor smoke stagnation in the area. Southeast U.S./Mississippi Valley... Numerous agricultural and prescribed fires could also be seen across most of the southeast U.S. and the Mississippi Valley in the early hours. The presence of smoke could not be visually confirmed following sunrise; cumulus clouds developing during the morning hours prevented the identification of smoke plumes in the area. Winds are expected to push any low-level smoke towards the west-northwest-north following the clock-wise high pressure circulation centered in Tennessee. WS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
