DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

A number of seasonal/agricultural fires were detected over the northern part of the Sacramento Valley resulting in a few thin density smoke plumes which fanned out as they spread to the north. Some of the smoke plumes merged forming somewhat larger patches of thin density smoke. Elsewhere... Rather widespread cloudiness over sizable portions of the U.S. limited additional smoke detection in satellite imagery. More seasonal burning was noted over the Middle and Lower Mississippi Valley though enough cloudiness there also prevented smoke detection in satellite imagery. DUST: Western Nevada... A patch of moderately dense blowing dust originated from the Carson Sink in west central Nevada and moved to the south and southeast during the late afternoon and early evening. JS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
