DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0130Z April 13, 2019
SMOKE: Florida/Georgia... A significant amount of seasonal burning was observed across Florida and southwestern Georgia. Only a few smoke plumes of thin density around Lake Okeechobee were seen due to cloud coverage. Central plains... A large number of seasonal/agricultural fires were detected across eastern Texas, Oklahoma, central-eastern Kansas, southern Missouri, and northern Arkansas with thin density smoke plumes moving east-southeast. Mexico/Central America/Western Gulf of Mexico... Numerous seasonal fires were observed over central-eastern-southern Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras. A large number of smoke plumes were seen in the imagery during the afternoon hours. While the majority of the smoke was light density, some of these smoke plumes were moderate in density. A relatively larger area of thin density smoke was visible over a portion of the Bay of Campeche and the western Gulf of Mexico extending north towards the coast of southeastern Texas and southern Louisiana. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg GIS: ftp://satpsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/FIRE/HMS/GIS/ KML: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/fire.kml (fire) http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/smoke.kml (smoke) ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
