DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE:
Western Gulf of Mexico/Mexico/Central America/Central US/Eastern US...
Continued agricultural burning and some wildfire activity throughout
portions of southern Mexico and Central America are responsible for
producing a large body of light to moderate density smoke that covers much
of Mexico, Central America, and the western Gulf of Mexico. Remnant smoke
has stretched northward through Texas and up to Kansas. Light density
smoke also coves the Ohio Valley and was visible across the Eastern US
coastline this evening before extending farther out over the Atlantic
Ocean. Moderately dense smoke was visible over the southwestern portion
of the Gulf of Mexico and along and off the southern coast of Mexico.
Alaska/Canada/New England U.S...
Wildfires located in northern Alberta are predominantly responsible
for an extremely large area of varying density smoke that can be seen
stretching from eastern Alaska across a large portion of Canada with
the exception of Hudson Bay and part of Quebec. The smoke also extended
down over the Northern U.S. from Montana and Wyoming eastward to New
England. Moderately dense to thick smoke was noted over much of western
and northwestern Canada as well as a portion of eastern Montana and
North Dakota. Smoke was also spreading to the west and to the south off
the coast of British Columbia and off the Pacific Northwest coast.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
