DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1630Z June 28, 2019
SMOKE: Southern/Central Alaska... Several large complex fires are burning across Southern/Central Alaska with one of the fire complexes on the Kenai peninsula south of the city of Anchorage and the other fire complex in the Yukon-Koyukuk Region. Several smaller fire complexes are burning is central/eastern Alaska. Heavy density smoke is present across most of the Kenai peninsula, out over the Northeastern Pacific, and in the city of Anchorage. Heavy density smoke is also present across most of western/central/eastern Alaska including the city of Fairbanks. Moderate density smoke is present across most of southern Alaska. Light density smoke is present across most of southern/central Alaska. Air quality is poor in the city of Anchorage. The moderate/heavy density smoke from the fire south of Anchorage is progress southwest this morning. Northwestern Canada/Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Northern Alberta Provinces... Two large complex fires are burning in Yukon Province. Moderate to heavy density smoke is present across most of the Yukon. The moderate/heavy density smoke is progressing Sw and SE this morning. Light density smoke was observed across most of Northern Alberta Province. Moderate/Heavy density smoke was observed closer and in the Vicinity of the fires. The smoke from these fires is progressing SW this morning. Western US/Arizona,California,and Utah... Smaller fires are burning across portions of the Western US. Two smaller fires burning in Central California are producing light density smoke progressing NW this morning. A small fire in SE Utah is producing light density smoke progressing NE this morning. A larger fire complex burning in Arizona is producing light/moderate density smoke progressing NW and then off to the NE this morning. Western Mexico... Several smaller fires are burning in Western Mexico. Light density smoke was observed further from the fires out over the southern Gulf of California and over the Eastern Pacific. Moderate to heavy density smoke was observed closer and in the vicinity of the fires. The smoke from these fires is progressing Sw this morning. BLOWING DUST: Saharan Dust has progressed across the Atlantic and has now progressed into two regions, one being in the Western Caribbean Sea and the other being in the Northwestern Gulf. Dust is progressing off to the SW and W towards Texas and Mexico this morning. Sambucci THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
