SMOKE: Alaska/Northwestern Canada... Fires in eastern Alaska and northwest Yukon territory were seen contributing moderate-density smoke over that region. The plume was being transported towards the southeast. Central and Southeastern Canada/Northeastern U.S... A large plume of predominantly light-density smoke could be seen stretching from northern Alberta to western Ontario. An second plume was also found covering much of Quebec extending into the northeastern U.S. Areas of moderate-to-heavy density smoke were seen near wildfires in western Ontario. Additional areas of moderate-to-heavy density smoke could be seen over central Quebec - those plumes were linked to wildfires in central Canada. The smoke is progressing towards the east following the higher altitude atmospheric flow. DUST: Southern Caribbean Region/Western Gulf of Mexico... Saharan dust has progressed from the eastern Atlantic off of Western Africa into portions of the southern Caribbean Sea, extending over the western Gulf of Mexico. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg GIS: ftp://satpsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/FIRE/HMS/GIS/ KML: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/fire.kml (fire) http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/smoke.kml (smoke) ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
