DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0130Z July 25, 2019
SMOKE: Alaska/Canada/Central and Eastern U.S... A large region of moderate to heavy smoke was observed using the latest GOES16 and GOES17 Visible imagery across most of Northern and Eastern Alaska into the Northern Yukon, most of Northwest Territories, Southern Nunavut, Northern Alberta, Northern Saskatchewan, Northern Manitoba, and most of Ontario Province. The smoke from large complex fires has progressed far away from the fires. Moderate and heavy density smoke was also observed over most of the Great Lakes region, and in portions of the Midwest including Northeastern Minnesota, most of Northern and Central Michigan, Eastern Wisconsin, and Northern Illinois. Light density smoke was observed across most of these regions seen as far North and West as Western Alaska to as far South and East as portions of the Ohio, Tennessee, and Mississippi River Valleys in the Central and Eastern US. Light density smoke was observed in Southern Ontario and Quebec Provinces and portions of Northwestern New York State. The heavy density smoke from the large complex fires in Northern and Eastern Alaska as well as Western Yukon Province is progressing north and west this evening. The heavy density smoke from large complex fires in the Northwest Territories, Southern Nunavut, Northern Manitoba, Northern Saskatchewan, and Northern Alberta is progressing westward this evening. Northwestern US/Washington and Idaho... The latest GOES16 and GOES17 Visible Imagery observed several small complex fires burning in Central and Eastern Washington. Several small complex fires are burning as well in Southern and Eastern Idaho. Light smoke was observed further from the fires and moderate to heavy density smoke was observed closer and in the vicinity of the fire activity. The smoke from these fires is progressing eastward this evening. Central/Southern Plains/Kansas and Oklahoma... A small region of light density smoke was observed over South Central Kansas and North Central Oklahoma from a large quantity of agricultural burns in the region. The smoke from these agricultural burns is light to moderate in density and is progressing northward and westward this evening. Florida Straits... A small region of light density smoke was observed south and in the vicinity of the Florida Keys from previous fire activity in Cuba. The smoke is progressing eastward this evening. Saharan Dust: A large region of Saharan dust observed in the latest GOES16 Visible imagery is progressing through the Central Caribbean Sea with dust observed over the Southeastern Bahamas, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, and Jamaica. The Saharan dust is progressing westward towards Southern Cuba, the Yucatan Peninsula, the Western Caribbean Sea, and Central America this evening. Sambucci THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
