DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1830Z July 26, 2019
SMOKE: Alaska/Canada/Central and Eastern United States... The widespread ongoing fires over Alaska, Northwestern and North Central Canada continued to produce a very large area of smoke that extended across much of the eastern and central United States, central and northwestern Canada and Alaska. Heavy density smoke was observed in the vicinity of the fires. Moderate density smoke was noted across central and eastern Alaska and extending to the east over Yukon, Northwest Territories, northern parts of Alberta and Saskatchewan, and Hudson Bay. Pacific Northwest... Fires in south central Washington and southwestern Oregon were producing heavy smoke generally tracking northeastward. Additional areas of medium density smoke were seen extending farther from the same fires beyond the scope of the heavy density smoke. Central Plains... Fires throughout the central plains have contributed to multiple plumes of light density smoke throughout Kansas and Oklahoma and eastern Texas. An additional area of light density smoke remains draped over the eastern most portion near the Mississippi River. YL THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg GIS: ftp://satpsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/FIRE/HMS/GIS/ KML: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/fire.kml (fire) http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/smoke.kml (smoke) ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
