THROUGH 1700Z August 8, 2019
SMOKE: Northwestern US...Eastern Washington, Northern Idaho, and Montana... The latest GOES Visible imagery observed several large complex fires burning in Eastern Washington, as well as Northeastern Oregon, and Western Montana. Smoke plumes across Northeastern Oregon were not visible due to cloud cover. Light density smoke from the wildfire activity in the Northwestern US has progress as far south and east into the Northern and Central Plains over North and South Dakota and into Nebraska. Moderate density smoke was observed over most of Eastern Washington, Northern Idaho, most of Montana, Northeastern Wyoming, and into portions of Southern South Dakota and Northern Nebraska. Heavy density smoke was observed over Eastern Washington, Northern Idaho, most of Montana, and Northeastern Wyoming. The smoke from large complex fire activity in the Northwestern US is progressing south and east this morning/early afternoon. Canada/Northern U.S... A large region of light density smoke was observed in latest GOES Visible imagery across most of Northern Canada, into portions of East Central Alberta, most of Saskatchewan, Western Manitoba, and into southern and eastern portions of Ontario Province. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg GIS: ftp://satpsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/FIRE/HMS/GIS/ KML: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/fire.kml (fire) http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/smoke.kml (smoke) ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
