THROUGH 0130Z August 12, 2019
SMOKE: Alaska/Northern Canada... Wildfires in southern Alaska were producing plumes of moderate density smoke, which was primarily confined to the immediate areas of their parent fires. More widespread light-density smoke from these fires extended over the Gulf of Alaska and the northern Pacific, as well as the coast of southeastern Alaska. Additional areas of remnant smoke from unknown sources was seen across northern Alaska and from the Northwest Territories of Canada into northern Manitoba. South-Central US... Several agricultural fires scattered across Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma were seen producing plumes of primarily light-density smoke, moving north and east from their sources. Western US... The Ikes Fire in northern Arizona was seen producing a plume of moderate-density smoke moving east-northeast along the Arizona-Utah border. The Springs Fire south of Mono Lake in California was producing light-density smoke moving northeastward into Nevada. DUST: Western Caribbean Sea/Western Atlantic Ocean... An narrow band of Saharan dust was seen oriented roughly southwest-northeast covering much of the western Caribbean Sea, eastern Cuba, and out over the northwestern Atlantic Ocean. MC THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg GIS: ftp://satpsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/FIRE/HMS/GIS/ KML: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/fire.kml (fire) http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/smoke.kml (smoke) ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
