SMOKE: Alaska/Gulf of Alaska/Canada/U.S.... The Swan Lake fire burning in the Kenai Peninsula has produced moderate and heavy density smoke across most of South Central Alaska which has now progressed southeastward with moderate and heavy density smoke observed over the Gulf of Alaska. Large complex fires both east and west of the Kenai Peninsula were also observed in Southern Alaska with latest GOES Visible imagery observing moderate to heavy density smoke from these fires progressing southward. Light density smoke was observed over the Yukon, Northwest Territories, Alberta Province in Canada and over portions of the Northern US likely from large complex fire activity in Southern Alaska. The smoke is progressing south and east this evening. Central Mexico/Bay of Campeche/Southern Gulf of Mexico... A large quantity of fire activity was observed in Central Mexico with heavy density smoke from the fires progressing northwestward. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg GIS: ftp://satpsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/FIRE/HMS/GIS/ KML: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/fire.kml (fire) http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/smoke.kml (smoke) ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
