DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z August 29, 2019
SMOKE: Alaska/Gulf of Alaska/Canada.... Fires in southern Alaska were responsible for an area of moderate-density smoke stretching from the Kenai Peninsula to northeast of Valdez. This area was encompassed by an area of light-density smoke seen in an area of relatively little cloud cover. Further light-density smoke was seen over Canada stretching from northeastern B.C. to southern Manitoba. Southwestern U.S... Fires in California and Arizona were seen to be emitting plumes of light smoke with primarily eastward movement. Central/Southern Plains... A few agricultural fires were seen producing plumes of light smoke in east Texas and Louisiana. In addition, a large area of remnant smoke was seen stretching from the western Gulf coast north into Nebraska and Iowa early this morning, drifting slowly eastward. MC THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
