DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z September 24, 2019
SMOKE: Western Canada/British Columbia Province... GOES Visible imagery was not fully clear with observing smoke from fire activity in Central British Columbia Province due to cloud cover, however light density smoke was observed in the region this morning. Southeast US/Bahamas... Light density smoke was observed across portions of the Southeastern US in Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia with isolated fire activity observed with GOES Visible imagery this morning. Light to moderate density smoke was observed from two small complex fires across Grand Bahama Island in the Bahamas. The smoke from these fires is progressing southwestward this morning. Southwestern Mexico... GOES Visible imagery observed light density smoke over portions of Southwestern Mexico south and west of Mexico City. Moderate to heavy density smoke was observed as well. The smoke in this region is progressing northward this morning. South Central Canada/Central Central Plains... Light density smoke was observed in GOES Visible imagery across portions of the Central Plains and across portions of Manitoba Province. The smoke in these regions is progressing northeastward this morning. Western US/California/Arizona... GOES Visible imagery observed light to moderate density smoke from the Ikes fire in the Grand Canyon region of Northern Arizona. Heavy density smoke was also observed in the vicinity of the fire. The smoke from this fire is progressing westward this morning. Light density smoke was observed progressing southward from fire activity in the Southeastern San Joaquin Valley this morning. Sambucci THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
