DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0130Z September 28, 2019
SMOKE: Western Canada/British Columbia Province... GOES Visible imagery of fire complex activity across portions of Central British Columbia Province was not too clear due to overcast conditions with a storm system in the region. Light density smoke was observed however across most of Central British Columbia Province. Moderate density smoke was observed closer and in the vicinity of the fire activity. The smoke in this region is progressing south and west this evening. Southern Mid-Atlantic/Southeast US... Light density smoke was seen earlier in the day in the upper levels of the atmosphere over southeastern Virginia and southeastern coast moving towards the ocean. Light density smoke is present this evening over portions of Western North Carolina, Western South Carolina, and portions of Alabama/Georgia. The light density smoke is likely to persist in the region which is under a strong heat ridge which is likely to keep smoke transport slow over the evening. Bahamas... GOES Visible imagery observed two large complex fires burning on Grand Bahama Island Southeast of Freeport. Light, moderate, and heavy density smoke was observed from these fires. The smoke from these fires is progressing southwestward this evening. Northern California/Oregon... GOES Visible imagery observed several small and a few large fire complexes over portions of South/Central Oregon and Northern California. Light density smoke was observed further from the fires. Moderate to heavy density smoke was observed closer and in the vicinity of the fire activity. The smoke from these fires is progressing south and eastward this evening. Lower Mississippi Valley... A large quantity of agricultural burning was observed across Eastern Arkansas, portions of Louisiana, and Western Mississippi. Light density smoke is present across the region. Moderate to heavy density smoke was also observed closer and in the vicinity of the fire activity. The smoke from these fires is mainly progressing northward this evening.
