DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0130Z September 30, 2019
SMOKE: Western Canada/Central British Columbia... GOES Visible imagery observed several large complex fires across portions of West Central British Columbia Province this evening. Light density smoke from these fires are present across most of the region and has progressed south and west out over the Eastern Pacific offshore from the Pacific Northwest US. Moderate to heavy density smoke was observed closer and in the vicinity of the large complex fire activity. The smoke from these fires is continuing to progress south and west this evening. California/Colorado... GOES Visible imagery observed several small fires across portions of Northern/Central California with light density smoke progressing north and east from these fires this evening. Two small complex fires were observed in the Central Rockies in Central Colorado with light density smoke from one of the fires progressing northeastward and moderate to heavy density smoke from the other fire progressing northeastward as well this evening. Lower Mississippi Valley... A large quantity of Agricultural burning was observed across portions of Eastern Arkansas, Northwestern Mississippi, and Southeastern Missouri. Moderate density smoke was observed across portions of Eastern Arkansas and Northwestern Mississippi. Light density smoke was observed throughout most of the region progressing northward this evening. Southeast US... Light density smoke was observed across portions of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Eastern Georgia. The light density smoke is progressing slowly southwestward this evening. Bahamas/Grand Bahama Island... GOES Visible imagery continues to observed small fire complex activity across the southern coastline of Grand Bahama Island in the Bahamas just east of the Freeport region. Moderate to heavy density smoke was observed closer and in the vicinity of the fire. Light density smoke was observed further from the fire progressing southwestward towards southeastern Florida this evening. Southwestern US Dust: A region of blowing dust was observed with GOES Visible imagery over portions of Northern Arizona and Southern/Eastern Utah. The dust is progressing northeastward this evening. Sambucci THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
