DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z October 16, 2019
SMOKE:
Northwestern U.S...
A significant amount of wildfires were observed across Washington,
Oregon, Idaho, and Montana but only a few small smoke plumes were seen
this evening due to extensive cloud coverage.
Arizona...
Several large complex fires were observed in northern and central Arizona
emitting moderate to thick smoke. A much larger area of thinner density
smoke from these fires extended well to the south and west.
California...
Scattered wildfires burning across portions of California are still
burning but at a much smaller rate. Only a few small plumes were seen
in the vicinity of the fires.
Lake Okeechobee, FL...
Several fires south of Lake Okeechobee were emitting light density smoke
plumes that were moving towards the northwest.
Southwestern Canada/British Columbia...
Seasonal fire activity in the southwestern Canada especially southeastern
British Columbia continues but smoke was not visible due to extensive
cloud coverage.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
