DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z November 4, 2019

SMOKE:
Pacific Ocean just off California/Baja California Coast...
The very light remnant smoke which extended from just off the coast of
the northern Baja northwest to just offshore of southern and central
California was barely visible by later in the day.

Utah...
Several fires in south central Utah were responsible for a broad area
of varying density smoke in that region.

Southern Louisiana...
Seasonal type fire activity over south central Louisiana resulted in
numerous thin density smoke plumes which moved off to the west.

Florida Panhandle/Southwestern Georgia...
A number of fires in the Florida Panhandle and far southwestern Georgia
were emitting thin to locally moderately dense smoke plumes which spread
to the south and southwest during the afternoon.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
