DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z December 03, 2019
SMOKE: Southeast US/Northwestern Gulf of Mexico,Eastern Texas and Southern Louisiana... GOES16 Visible satellite imagery observed two large complex fires with one located just inland from the coastline in the region of Grand Chenier, Louisiana and the other fire is located on Matagorda Island, Texas. Heavy density smoke was in the vicinity of both fires. Moderate and light density smoke was observed further from the fires. Light and moderate density smoke was observed offshore from Southern Louisiana and Southeastern Texas over the Northwestern Gulf of Mexico. Smoke from the Southern Louisiana fire was progressing westward but now appears to be progressing northwestward and smoke from the Southeastern Texas fire is progressing north and east this morning. The Bahamas... Small complex fire activity was observed on the Northern portion of Great Abaco Island, the Western portion of Grand Bahama Island, and the Northern portion of Andros Island of the Bahamas. Light density smoke was observed from these fires progressing southward and eastward this morning. South Florida... Agricultural burning was observed south and to the east of Lake Okeechobee. Light density smoke was observed from these agricultural fires progressing southeastward this morning. Northwestern US/ Eastern Oregon and Eastern Washington... Small complex fire activity was observed across portions of Eastern Washington State and Eastern Oregon. Abundant cloud cover made smoke analysis difficult in the region, however light density smoke was observed in the vicinity of the fires this morning.
