DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0000Z January 1, 2021
SMOKE: Eastern Mexico… Light smoke was observed coming out of fire activity all across eastern Mexico. A cold front was over central Veracruz. South of the front, smoke was moving off toward the northwest. North of the front, most smoke was moving off toward the west or southwest. And in the higher elevations, smoke was observed moving off towad the east-northeast. Northern Baja California… A few smoke plumes were visible from fires in the agricultural region north of the Colorado River Delta, one of which was of moderate thickness. Smoke was moving in many different directions, ranging from west to north to east. BLOWING DUST: Northern Baja California… In the same region where smoke was observed north of the Colorado River Delta, one area was producing a dust plume that was observed moving southeast across the Colorado River Delta into the northern Gulf of California. Central Mexico… Dust was observed emanating from the western portions of Lago de Cuitzeo in central Mexico. The dust plume was moving off toward the northeast. -Hosley THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
