DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0300Z February 18, 2020
SMOKE: Southern US/North Texas/South Florida/Eastern North Carolina... Light density smoke was observed earlier this evening in Western Palm Beach county in South Florida South of Lake Okeechobee associated with agricultural burning. The smoke from these fires is progressing northward. A fire complex was observed burning in Cottle County in North Texas with moderate to heavy density smoke closer to the fire and light density smoke further from the fire progressing southward this evening. Light density smoke was observed progressing southward from isolated small fire activity in Eastern North Carolina. A fire complex was observed in Sierra County in Northeastern California with moderate and heavy density smoke in the vicinity of the fire and light density smoke further from the fire progressing southward this evening. Bahamas Small complex fire activity was observed west of Andros Town Bahamas with moderate and heavy density smoke closer to the small fires and light density smoke further from the fires progressing westward this evening. Cuba/Southeastern Gulf of Mexico Widespread seasonal fire activity was observed across most of Cuba. Moderate and heavy density smoke was observed in the vicinity of several fires. Light density smoke was observed further from the fires progressing southwestward in portions of Central and Southern Cuba. Light density smoke was observed as well in North Cuba progressing northwestward out over the Southeastern Gulf of Mexico this evening. Central Mexico/ Southern Guatemala Widespread seasonal fire activity was observed across portions of Central Mexico and the Yucatan Peninsula as well with moderate and heavy density smoke observed in vicinity of the fires and large regions of light density smoke further from the fires. Widespread seasonal fire activity was also observed in Southern Guatemala where light density smoke was observed in the region and just offshore as well over the Pacific this evening. Dust: Blowing dust was observed in portions of Nevada this evening progressing southwestward and southeastward this evening. Sambucci THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
