THROUGH 0200Z February 21, 2020
SMOKE: Veracruz, Tabasco, and the Bay of Campeche… Fire activity and gas flaring along and in the Bay of Campeche and western Gulf of Mexico was producing light to moderate density smoke. The light smoke from the gas flaring in the Bay of Campeche was moving northwest, then north and north-northeast. Light smoke from fires across Veracruz and southern Tamaulipas was moving south along the coast and a moderate density smoke plume over western Tabasco was moving west-southwest. Cuba… Fires throughout Cuba were observed emitting smoke this afternoon. Smoke from fires along the southern coast and the eastern portion of the island was moving westward, while smoke from the northern part of the island was moving north. The smoke is mainly light with one or two smoke plumes of a more moderate density. BLOWING DUST: Northern Mexico… A large area of blowing dust was observed emanating from northern Chihuahua. The lofted dust was moving generally west into far southern New Mexico and far northeastern Sonora. Another dust plume was noted across southern Chihuahua also moving westward approaching northeastern Durango. More blowing dust was observed moving northwest through San Luis Potosi and Zacatecas. Further blowing dust may be moving southwest with smoke plumes in the south-central Mexican states of Jalisco and Colima.
