DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0217Z March 12, 2020
SMOKE: Plains... Areas of light smoke were visible between breaks in cloud cover emanating from numerous agricultural fires throughout eastern Kansas, northwestern Missouri and into western Iowa. The plumes were moving primarily north and northeast. Southeastern U.S… Areas of primarily light density smoke were visible extending west from a large number of fires throughout the Florida peninsula. The extent of smoke was difficult to discern due to cloud cover obscuring the view. Additional smoke plumes were spotted between breaks in the clouds over coastal South Carolina. A large plume of medium to heavy density smoke was observed extending off of the coast and moving east-northeast into the Atlantic Ocean. Cuba… Large plumes of primarily light density smoke were observed moving southwest across the island and into the ocean. Smoke plumes were attributed to extensive fire activity throughout the entire island, and some smoke plumes were impossible to discern due to cloud cover. JL THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
