DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1800Z March 31, 2020
SMOKE: Central U.S… Seasonal fire activity was increasing through late morning, especially in eastern Kansas, northern Missouri, and Iowa. However, thus far only a few of these fires have been observed producing plumes of light smoke. Mexico/Central America/Western Gulf of Mexico… Seasonal fires throughout central and southern Mexico and Guatemala were producing numerous plumes of primarily light smoke. In addition, smoke likely from similar fires over the previous few days covers much of the southwestern Gulf of Mexico, including the entirety of the Bay of Campeche. Within this, a patch of moderate density smoke was visible to the north and west of the Yucatan Peninsula. Cuba… Multiple seasonal fires throughout Cuba were seen producing smoke plumes consisting of mainly light smoke moving northward. A patch of remnant smoke was also seen between western Cuba and the Florida Keys. MC THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
