DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1800Z April 02, 2020
SMOKE: Southeast U.S.… Several fires south of Lake Okeechobee in southern Florida were observed to be emitting mostly brief plumes of thin smoke moving westward. Additional fires in southern Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, eastern Georgia, eastern South Carolina, and coastal North Carolina were also producing plumes of smoke with southward and southeastward movement. Of these, a fire in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, was producing thick smoke, and two fires in Georgia were producing moderate smoke. Mexico/Central America/Southern Gulf of Mexico… Numerous fires throughout central and southern Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras were producing localized plumes of thin smoke through the morning and early afternoon. In addition, thin remnant smoke was observed over central Mexico, and smoke from flaring operations in the Bay of Campeche was visible extending northwestward. MC THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
