SMOKE: Central America/Southern Mexico/Southern Gulf of Mexico/Southern Florida… Widespread fire activity throughout Central America, southern Mexico, and the Yucatan Peninsula, along with remnant smoke from previous days's fire activity, were helping to create a large area of smoke extending from Nicaragua to across the Yucatan Peninsula and southwestern Florida. The most dense smoke was observed over northern Honduras and extending north into the Caribbean near Belize. Thick smoke, although not quite as thick, resided over Guatemala and the southern Yucatan Peninsula. The northern portion of the large area of smoke was being drawn northeast ahead of a cold front into southwestern Florida while also being shunted southward into the southern Gulf of Mexico and Bay of Campeche thanks to the same frontal system. Hosley THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
