SMOKE: Northeastern New Mexico… A couple of relatively larger fires in northeastern New Mexico produced locally moderate to thick density smoke closer to the actual fires which fanned out and thinned out in density as it spread to the northeast extending into southeastern Colorado, southwestern Kansas, western Oklahoma, and northwestern Texas. South Central and Southeastern U.S… Widely scattered mainly thin density smoke plumes attributed to seasonal burning were present across a broad area of the South Central and Southeastern U.S. North Central U.S./South Central Canada… Seasonal fire activity resulted in a few thin density smoke plumes across portions of Montana, North Dakota, eastern South Dakota, and western and central Minnesota as well as the southern portions of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba in southern Canada. Bay of Campeche/Mexico/Central America/Pacific south of Mexico and Central America… The massive amount of seasonal fire activity especially across southern and southeastern Mexico and Central America produced a very large area of varying density smoke covering southern and southeastern Mexico, Central America, the Bay of Campeche and the Pacific Ocean south of Mexico and Central America. Patches of moderate density smoke were seen over the Bay of Campeche while moderate to thick density smoke impacted the region from Honduras to El Salvador and south of there over the nearby Pacific and across southern Mexico and offshore to the south from there over the nearby Pacific. JS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg GIS: ftp://satpsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/FIRE/HMS/GIS/ KML: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/fire.kml (fire) http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/smoke.kml (smoke) ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
