SMOKE: South Central and Southeastern U.S… A number of smoke plumes were visible this afternoon and early evening with seasonal fire activity across the region stretching from eastern Texas eastward across the Southeast to southern Georgia and Florida. Southern Texas/Gulf of Mexico/Mexico/Central America/Pacific south of Mexico and Central America… The tremendous amount of seasonal fires detected in southern and southeastern Mexico and Central America resulted in a very large area of varying density smoke covering southern, eastern, and southeastern Mexico, Central America, the Pacific south of Mexico and Central America, the Bay of Campeche and western Gulf of Mexico, and far southern Texas. Embedded patches of thicker smoke were noted especially from Honduras to off the El Salvador coast and over southern Mexico and south of there over the Pacific. Moderately dense to thick smoke could also be seen spreading to the west and northwest from the Yucatan Peninsula and over the Bay of Campeche.
