DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2350Z June 4, 2020

SMOKE:

Manitoba...
A large fire in southeastern Manitoba was seen emitting moderate-to-heavy
density smoke towards the east extending for approximately 100 miles
into western Ontario.

Mexico...
Widespread seasonal fire activity continued over most of western Mexico
this afternoon. A large plume of light density smoke could be seen
covering the entire region and extending westward for approximately 500
miles over the Pacific ocean just south of Baja California Sur. Moderate
density smoke covered the states of Jalisco, Michoacan and Guerrero,
in addition to northern Nayarit and southern Sinaloa.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
