DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0230Z June 13, 2020
SMOKE: Rockies/Southern and Central Plains... Wildfire activity across Arizona and New Mexico was responsible for varying density smoke across western New Mexico, southeastern Arizona, and in southern Utah. The wildfire emitting dense smoke was in far northern Arizona, which was being drawn northward into Utah. Another wildfire in northeastern New Mexico was producing a moderate to heavy density plume across the Texas Panhandle and western Oklahoma. In addition to the attached smoke plumes, a large area of remnant smoke was observed from Wyoming to New Mexico to Missouri to southern Texas. The regions of most dense remnant smoke was over the Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming triple point area. Much of the remnant smoke east of the fire activity was moving east while the remnant smoke to the north was moving northeast. As for the emanating smoke, much of that was moving north from the parent fires. California/Baja Peninsula... Wildfire activity continues across northern Baja California and far southern California. Light to moderate density plumes were found right along the U.S./Mexico border. Saskatchewan/Manitoba/North Dakota... Several light density plumes from seasonal fires moving to the west and west-northwest were detected from southeastern Saskatchewan to eastern North Dakota. Alaska... Two wildfires in the central part of the state were producing light density plumes that were moving off to the east-northeast. Konon THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg GIS: ftp://satpsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/FIRE/HMS/GIS/ KML: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/fire.kml (fire) http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/smoke.kml (smoke) ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
