DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z June 21, 2020
SMOKE: Southeastern Canada... A narrow light to moderate density plume from ongoing wildfires in southern Quebec is spreading east-southeastward across the Gulf of St. Lawrence to south of Newfoundland. Desert Southwest... A large light to moderate density and relatively stagnant plume is found across central and northern Arizona from the ongoing Bush Wildfire northeast of Phoenix. A couple of other wildfires across southern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico are producing small light to moderate density plumes. DUST: A large light to moderate density Saharan Air Layer (SAL) dust plume is currently over the eastern Caribbean moving westward and is overspreading Puerto Rico. Expect this dust to increase in density with time and cover much of the Caribbean in the next two days. Konon THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
