DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z July 13, 2020
SMOKE: Northwestern Mexico/Baja California... Light density smoke was observed over parts of Northwestern Mexico and over the Baja of California. Light density smoke was also observed out over the Eastern Pacific Ocean offshore from the Baja of California this morning. Southwestern US including New Mexico... A complex fire was observed to the Northwest of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Smoke was observed from the fire progressing East and Southward in satellite imagery. SAHARAN DUST: Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Yucatan Peninsula, and Central America... A large region of thick Saharan dust was observed in the latest GOES16 RGB Visible imagery this morning progressing from the Western Atlantic into the Eastern Caribbean Sea observed as far West to Hispaniola this morning. Saharan dust was also observed over portions of Central America, the Eastern Yucatan Peninsula, and parts of the Western Caribbean Sea. The regions of Saharan dust are progressing Westward in satellite imagery. Sambucci THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
