DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: California and Oregon…. An area of light to moderate density smoke, from the ongoing fire over northeastern California, was extending through northern portions of California and into western portions of Oregon. Alaska…. An area of light to moderate density smokes from fires over Russia was extending from central Alaska west through the Bering Sea and into portions of eastern Russia. DUST: An area of Saharan dust was extending from portions of the Bahamas west through southern Florida and into the northwestern Caribbean Sea, the southern Gulf of Mexico and the Yucatan. Another area of Saharan Dust over the Tropical Atlantic was moving westward and moving into portions of the northeastern Caribbean Islands. Hanna THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
