DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1755Z July 29, 2020
SMOKE: Pacific Northwest... A large area of light to moderate density smoke from wildfires in northern California and surrounding areas is seen covering most of Oregon, Washington and Idaho, and extending towards the northeast into southwestern Saskatchewan. The smoke is generally moving towards the northeast-east. Alaska... A large area of light to moderate density smoke originating from previous days wildfire activity in Siberia is seen covering much of the Gulf of Alaska, in addition to southern Alaska, northwestern British Columbia and a narrow band stretching into central Northwest Territories. The smoke is being transported eastward and is currently descending over British Columbia . DUST: An area of light Saharan Dust is seen moving westward over the Tropical Atlantic and eastern Caribbean Islands immediately ahead of Tropical Storm Isaias. WS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
