THROUGH 2320Z August 9, 2020
SMOKE: California... The Red Salmon Complex in Humboldt County remains active with largely stagnant moderate-to-heavy density smoke seen near the source. Light density smoke from that same fire covers much of northern California extending to the west for approximately 100 miles over the Pacific ocean and to the east over northwestern Nevada. Colorado/Nebraska/Iowa… The Pine Gulch Fire continues to burn in southwestern Garfield County in western Colorado releasing moderate-to-thick density smoke towards the northeast. Smoke from that fire is seen extending across central Nebraska and western Iowa. Southeastern U.S.... Light density remnant smoke was observed across central Mississippi, Alabama and central Georgia as a result of scattered fire activity in that region. The smoke is drifting eastward reaching central South Carolina. Dust... Light Saharan dust could be seen moving westward across western Hispaniola and the central Caribbean Sea this afternoon. WS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg GIS: ftp://satpsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/FIRE/HMS/GIS/ KML: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/fire.kml (fire) http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/smoke.kml (smoke) ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
