DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: Western United States….Fires over the western United States were producing a large area of light to moderate density smoke that was extending from portions of the western Gulf of Mexico west through the Southern Plains, the Southwest and Central Rockies States west through California. Localized heavy density smoke was confined to near the fire locations and larger areas of moderate density smoke covered portions of southern New Mexico, southern Arizona and northern Mexico and also over California and extending northeast into Idaho. Alaska and the northern Yukon….An area of light density smoke, from fires over Russia, was extending from the northern Yukon west through central Alaska. DUST: Tropical Atlantic... A large area of Saharan Dust extended from the Tropical Atlantic west into the eastern and central Caribbean and portions of the southwest Atlantic Ocean. Hanna THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
