DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: Western and South Central United States along with the northwestern Gulf of Mexico, Northern Mexico, and the Eastern Pacific… A very large area of smoke covered portions of the western Gulf of Mexico, the South Central United States and all of the Western United States. Within this large area of smoke, several areas of moderate to high density smoke was noted with the highest density of smoke over portions of coastal Central California and extending inland into central California and also near the ongoing fires over Colorado. Moderate density smoke covered portions of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah and also extending from portions of northern California northeast towards the central and northern Rockies. Alaska… An area of light density smoke from remnant fires over Russia extended from portions of northern Alaska southwest through western Alaska. DUST: Tropical Atlantic... Saharan Dust was covering a large area of the Tropical Atlantic Ocean and extended west into portions of the Southwest Atlantic Ocean southwest into the central and western Caribbean Sea. Hanna THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
