SMOKE: Western and Midwestern U.S./Baja California/Northwestern Mexico… Smoke from wildfires in the western U.S. continues to cover that entire in addition to most of the midwest. Thick smoke dominates over central-northern California and southern Oregon, while moderate smoke covers western Nevada, central Idaho, southeastern Montana, northern Wyoming and Nebraska, the Dakotas, southern Minnesota, northern Iowa, southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois, central-northern Indiana and southwestern Ohio. Lighter density smoke extends outwards from the moderate concentration areas listed above, including Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, northwestern Mexico and Baja California. The smoke remains largely stagnant across the western U.S. In contrast, the smoke is seen traveling eastward over the midwestern states heading towards the mid-atlantic and northeastern regions of the U.S. Another pocket of mostly light smoke is also seen off the coast of North Carolina traveling eastward ahead of the main plume. WS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
