DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1800Z Thursday, September 3, 2020
SMOKE:
Western U.S./Pacific...
Large wildfires continue to burn in central and northern California
with moderate to heavy stagnant smoke covering much of San Joaquin and
Sacramento Valleys, as well as coastal areas north of Santa Rosa. The
smoke plume is seen extending to the west over the Pacific Ocean from
Salinas to the Oregon state border. Remnant smoke from these fires
was seen moving further west over the Pacific and then NE towards the
Washington state border.
Oregon/Washington...
Light density remnant smoke was seen moving east across Idaho. Moderate
density smoke covers northern Oregon and southern Washington as a result
of wildfires in northern Oregon (White River and Lionshead fires)
and central Washington (Evans Canyon Fire). The plumes can be seen
dispersing towards the southeast.
Montana...
Several wildfires in the south-central and southeastern part of the
state are producing light to moderate density plumes that are
spreading off to the east-southeast. Remnant smoke from yesterday was
seen moving east across South Dakota, Montana, and then turning northeast
towards the Great Lakes region.
Mexico...
An area consisting of light-density stagnant smoke associated with
scattered small fire activity is seen stretching from western Tabasco
to northern Veracruz.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
