DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2355Z September 27, 2020
SMOKE: California/Nevada/Arizona/New Mexico/Northwestern Mexico/Baja California... Major wildfires in central and northern California flared up again as a result of windy conditions across the region releasing heavy smoke towards the southwest for approximately 200 miles into the Pacific. Moderate smoke was seen spreading across much of the state and into southern Nevada and northwestern Arizona, while lighter smoke extended further towards the southeast in the direction of New Mexico and northwestern Texas, and towards the south over northwestern Mexico and Baja California. Mississippi Valley... A large number of short duration agricultural fires could be observed along northeastern Arkansas and southeastern Missouri creating a plume of moderate smoke across the area. The plume was seen dispersing towards the northeast into southern Illinois. Southern Ontario/New England/Nova Scotia Remnant light-to-moderate density smoke from western wildfires was seen traveling eastward over southern Ontario, Lakes Erie and Ontario, and further towards the northeast over New England and Nova Scotia. WS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
