DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0240z October 1, 2020
SMOKE: California/Pacific NW/Western Canada/Northeast Pacific... Wildfires throughout central and northern California continue to produce a large area of smoke that extends from California north through the entire West Coast into British Columbia, Alberta, southern Yukon and the southern Northwest Territories. Over the Pacific Northwest the smoke extended east into the Northern Rockies. The highest density smoke within this plume was inland over California extending north northwest up the Pacific Coast into western Oregon and southwest Washington. Front Range/Central Plains/Southern Plains.. Wildfires ongoing over southeastern Wyoming and north central Colorado were producing a large area of moderate to localized high density smoke that was extending from the Central and Southern Plains northwest through eastern Colorado and southeastern Wyoming. High density smoke was located closer to the ongoing fire activity and extending into eastern Colorado. North Atlantic... A large area of light density smoke from the western United States wildfires was extending from offshore western Europe back to the west towards Newfoundland. DUST: Atlantic... A large area of Saharan Dust was extending through the Tropical Atlantic Ocean west towards the northeastern Caribbean Islands. Hanna THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
