DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1810z October 3, 2020
SMOKE: California/Pacific NW/Western Canada/Northeast Pacific/Northwestern Mexico... Major wildfires throughout central and northern California continue to produce heavy smoke this morning. Moderate and heavy density smoke is observed over central California and covers most of northern California extending west offshore into the Pacific Ocean. An area of light density smoke covers all of California, southwestern Arizona, western and northern Nevada, most of Oregon, western Washington, and northwestern Mexico. The light density smoke extends approximately 700 miles off the coast over the open waters of the Pacific. Front Range/Central Plains/Southern Plains.. The Mullen Fire was observed producing thick smoke this morning. The thick smoke was extending southeast into eastern Colorado, with further smoke moving into the southeastern CONUS. Remnant light density smoke from these fires was seen across northeast New Mexico, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and lower Mississippi River region, then to the east reaching Kentucky. YL THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
