DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: United States, Northern Mexico, Southern Canada, Western Atlantic and Eastern Pacific… More widespread smoke attributed primarily to the ongoing larger wildfires still burning in the Western U.S. was visible during the afternoon across a good portion of the U.S. as well as far southwestern and far south central Canada, roughly the northern two-thirds of Mexico, and a portion of the far eastern Pacific, and the far western Atlantic off the coast of the Carolinas and Georgia. Moderately dense smoke with embedded thicker patches of smoke stretched from California and the Pacific Northwest eastward to the Northern and Central Plains and the Upper and Middle Mississippi Valley region. Thicker smoke was seen over northeastern Utah, and from northern Colorado and southern Wyoming to parts of Nebraska, Kansas, and Iowa. This area of thicker smoke was from the wildfires in northeastern Utah and in north central Colorado and south central Wyoming. The wildfires in California were responsible for thick smoke covering roughly the northern two-thirds of the state, western Nevada, a good portion of central and southern Oregon, and central and southern Idaho. The Great Lakes region, the Northeast, a portion of the Southeast, and western Washington and northwestern Oregon were somewhat smoke free. JS Earlier This Morning... DUST: Tropical Atlantic Ocean…. An area of Saharan Dust was seen over the Tropical Atlantic Ocean and extending west towards the eastern Caribbean Islands. Eglin THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
