SMOKE: California, Nevada, Colorado, Northeastern U.S., and Southeastern Canada... Wild fires in central California continue to emit smoke resulting in moderate-to-heavy concentrations near their sources. A plume of medium and light density smoke is observed over central and southern California moving eastward across southern Nevada, and becomes obscured by cloud cover in southwestern Colorado. The continuing wildfire cluster over north-central Colorado is obscured by cloud cover but weather systems continue to push the heavy smoke emitted by these wild fires east and an area of light density smoke from these fires can be seen within a small opening through the clouds in the northeastern U.S. starting in New York and extends eastward into Nova Scotia. The large weather systems cover much of our area of interest with the exception of the west coast and Mexico which prevents any further smoke analysis at this time. Eglin THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg GIS: ftp://satpsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/FIRE/HMS/GIS/ KML: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/fire.kml (fire) http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/smoke.kml (smoke) ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
