THROUGH 0240Z December 19, 2020

Smoke...
Southeastern Louisiana, Florida, Mexico ...
Numerous light density smoke plumes were observed converging into
one large area of light smoke flowing in a Northwest direction due
to agricultural burning in Southern Louisiana. Numerous light density
smoke plumes were observed flowing southward due to agricultural burning
around the Lake Okeechobee region of South Florida and in the Florida
Panhandle. An area of stagnant smoke was observed over south-central
Mexico due to agricultural burning.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
