DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1800Z January 16, 2021
SMOKE: San Clemente Island/CA… A large vegetation fire could be seen burning across San Clemente Island this morning. The associated smoke plume was dispersing towards the south for approximately 50 miles over the Pacific ocean waters. DUST: A very large area of blowing dust had formed this morning off central-southeastern Texas spanning from Lake Jackson to Corpus Christi, and moving towards the southeast for nearly 400 miles into the Gulf of Mexico. WS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
