DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z January 26, 2021
SMOKE: Central/South Florida... Agricultural burning and seasonal fire activity was observed over parts of Central and Southern Florida. Light density smoke was observed from most of the fire activity progressing northward ahead of a weather system in this evening’s GOES satellite imagery. Northern/Central California... Agricultural burning and seasonal fire activity was observed over parts of Northern and Central California, however cloud cover from a weather system in the region made smoke analysis difficult in this evening’s GOES satellite imagery. Southern and Eastern Coastal Mexico/Southwestern Gulf of Mexico... A large region of light density smoke was observed over parts of Coastal Southern/Eastern Mexico from seasonal fire activity. Light density smoke was also observed from offshore drilling platforms over parts of the Southwestern Gulf of Mexico in this evening’s GOES visible satellite imagery DUST: Western Texas/Northern Mexico... The latest GOES visible satellite imagery observed small regions of blowing dust over parts of Western Texas progressing eastward and blowing dust was also observed over parts of Northern Mexico progressing northeastward in this evening’s GOES satellite imagery. Sambucci THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg GIS: ftp://satpsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/FIRE/HMS/GIS/ KML: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/fire.kml (fire) http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/smoke.kml (smoke) ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
