DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0030Z February 1, 2021

SMOKE:
Texas/Louisiana…
Scattered light smoke plumes were observed across the state of Texas
with a couple in southern Louisiana. The smoke plumes across northern
and eastern Texas, as well as those in Louisiana, were moving off toward
the south-southeast, while the smoke near the Rio Grande was moving due
south or just west of due south.

Central Mexico…
A cluster of light smoke plumes were observed emanating from widespread
fire activity across Jalisco, Guanajuato, Michoacan, the State of Mexico,
and the Federal District of Mexico City. Much of the smoke was moving
off toward the west.

BLOWING DUST:
State of Mexico…
Blowing Dust was observed moving off to the southwest from a source area
in northeast State of Mexico.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
